📖 In Simon Sinek's book The Infinite Game, he introduces for me this term, which was a huge shift!
Sinek highlights a mindset on how you view other players in your market or industry.
-> Competitor: Someone you are trying to BEAT. This creates an unhealthy obsession with their actions, short-term metrics (like market share), and beating the competition.
-> Worthy Rival: Someone you RESPECT, who is worthy of comparison. They push you to take an attitude of continuous improvement rather than focusing on the outcome of just winning.
The VALUE in a worthy rival: Embracing this concept allows leaders to transform professional envy or jealousy into a catalyst for growth. By studying a worthy rival's superior product, service, more effective leadership, or better marketing, you can identify blind spots and adapt to improve (not to win).
Ultimately, the only true competitor in an infinite game is yourself.
And remember - there is no "Ultimate Winner" of Life or Business!
