It's easy to think "OK, well, groceries only went up by 0.8% in the last quarter" .. But an accumulation is what happens in the long term - quarter after quarter after quarter. the media mostly reports quarterly and sometimes annually, but rarely longer. So we forget.
No wonder household finances are reportedly stretched, and we're all feeling the pinch! (Especially according to this graph, the ones that drink and smoke!)
